Time Stands Still for Me

Inspired by a sight in the Lewis and Clark Caverns, where stairs descend past the skeleton of a bat stuck against a wall. Translucent papers cover the sides of the skeleton in this piece, allowing the bones to show through and imitating the process of the waxy flowstone slowly covering the bat. I am fascinated by this early process of fossilization. While the bat's fellow cave mates live and die, their bodies become scattered and their bones will weather to dust. Our unfortunate bat has a chance to leave a small part of himself beyond his temporary lifespan, as his bones are covered by rock and the hollow in them replaced by minerals. | |||
